Bishops Place Development
“Bishops Place” development on Norton Folgate / Shoreditch High Street and Worship Street.

The £700 million scheme by Foster and Partners is for 645,000 sq ft of offices, 310 flats and an 80 bed hotel. It would be next to Broadgate Tower which is nearing completion north of Liverpool Street, and would be the same height.

Hackney Council has ignored advice of English Heritage and its own independent advisors who say that The Light building should be included in the Shoreditch High Street conservation area. 5000 people have signed the Save the Light petition!

Hackney Council prefers to support Hammerson’s overbearing development. Yet CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) has stated that the development should not receive planning permission in its current form.

CABE said:
“We do not believe the scheme as submitted goes far enough to address the transition between the City and the neighbouring boroughs of South Shoreditch, both in terms of the architectural approach and the nature of uses proposed. We do not object to tall buildings in this location but, in our view, the resolution to the massing and public realm fails to convince us that the site can accomodate this quantum of development.”
